Frequently Asked Questions

Sand and cement render, properly applied and maintained with periodic painting, lasts 20–30 years. Monocouche through-colour render has a similar life expectancy with lower maintenance as it doesn't need painting. The key factor is proper preparation and application.

Only if the existing coat is completely sound, stable, and well-bonded to the wall. Loose, hollow, or cracked sections must be removed first. Applying new render over failing old render will just cause the new coat to fail too. We check thoroughly before starting.

Monocouche is a through-coloured, single-coat product — the colour goes all the way through so scratches and chips are less obvious and it doesn't need painting. Sand and cement is a traditional two-coat system that you paint once dry, giving more colour flexibility but requiring periodic repainting.

Some hairline movement cracking is normal as a building settles. A render applied correctly with the right mix, adequate curing time between coats, and suitable movement joints is unlikely to crack significantly. Poor preparation or rushing the job is the main cause of render failure.
